The future?
After numerous interest rate falls in the UK, and after the effects of the "Credit Crunch" in the USA on Northern Rock, R.B.S., the TSB, etc., the Bank of England announced the maintenance of the lowest rates ever in its history, at 0.5%.
Prices have generally fallen in the last 30 months (as of July 2010) in UK, and the housing market is stalling worldwide.
The European Central bank has maintained rates at 1%. (June 2010).
Sales Down
Less Interest
The previous rises in interest rates inevitably came through to house sales, and the recent reductions have done nothing to stimulate the market.
Possibly too many apartments have been built, exceeding demand by 100%.
There are hundreds of properties to let, and the steam seems to have gone out of the "Buy to Let" market in UK, as is the case here in Spain.
Wealth Tax abolished.
Marbella and Estepona are going through torrid times, with National Police investigations into corruption and influence already into the second year in Marbella, and just starting in Estepona. There is also news of Town Halls in the Axarquia region being investigated, and mayors arrested (Alcaucin).
On balance, buy what you can see and feel.
